“PTC endured the pain of a five year rewrite to integrate its software,
while its competitors have this challenge ahead of them.”
Needham Report, 2009
- PTC revolutionises the market – again!
-
First -
CAD
Back in 1985 PTC (Parametric Technology Corporation) reinvented the world of CAD CAM, by introducing parametrics. The ability to change a variable in a model and the software automatically adjust the rest of the model to show the effect of that change.
This revolutionised the CAD CAM industry. The software was called Pro/ENGINEER and it grew to become the dominant software in the CAD CAM industry. There are over 365,000 active seats of Pro/ENGINEER worldwide: more commercial seats than any other CAD software.
Then -
Internet based Product Lifecycle Management
Internet based software is now common. But PTC was the first to introduce full featured PLM software which was purely internet based over 10 years ago.
Now -
Product Development
In 2010 PTC revolutionised the market all over again and in the process significantly changed the face of PTC.
PTC’s vision is product development – they have the only integral Product Development System.
The backbone of this vision is Windchill
– the only completely integrated PLM tool, which is scalable from small to large enterprises.
Windchill is the best selling PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software worldwide, with over 952,000 active seats. More seats than even Pro/ENGINEER.
No other company can match PTC’s current suite of integrated Product Development software – plus the 2010 announcements of future developments (including emerging technologies such as SharePoint – over 130 mil licenses worldwide – being applied to product development) have raised the bar for everyone in the industry. PTC has over 1950 employees in R&D. it spends over 20% of revenue on R&D, well over the industry average.
PTC’s view of product development recognises that product development is a set of multi functional and distributed processes that span the life of the product, from concept through support. By optimising these processes companies can unlock significant value - this is the key to product development and to business success in this decade. And this requires a set of tools that all work well together – PTC Product Development software.

- Why LEAP chose PTC?
-
PTC’s suite of product development software has the greatest depth and breadth available in the marketplace
Breadth
Covering a full range of solutions for Product Development (PLM), including CAD (both associative and direct), CAE, CAM, engineering calculations, product data management, and technical illustration.
Depth
PTC software is easy enough for small to medium sized businesses, yet has the advanced capabilities needed to meet the needs of very large corporations. Other software vendors have separate low end and high end offerings – denying their smaller customers a growth path to greater functionality and compatibility with large OEMs, and preventing their larger customers from close compatibility with their supply chain.
Market Reach
PTC has over 25,000 customers world wide.
