- Does your organisation design tooling for manufacture?
- Do you transcribe key information from customer drawings?
- How do you detect mistakes in the data supplied by customers?
- How do you identify problems with the tooling design derived from this data?
- Master a Complex Design Task with Computer Aided Design
The design and manufacture of tooling for high volume component manufacture is generally complex and can be very time consuming and expensive. It is imperative that errors in tooling form are identified and remedied as early as possible in the manufacturing process as the forced rework of a tool already in service may be difficult and will certainly be expensive. Ideally, tooling design is undertaken in a computer-aided design environment and is based on an associative and embedded model of the product to be manufactured. This embedded associativity facilitates concurrent design with all changes to the product instantly updated and reflected in the tooling. This removes the reliance on interpreting and transcribing information from other sources such as 2D drawings with the associated risk of error in transfer.

Digital Design Tools Revolutionise the Validation and Manufacturing Process
Tooling designers who utilise digital design tools are provided with simple, process-oriented workflows which much more easily define and update manufacturing allowances such as shrinkage in plastic parts or spring back in pressed metal components. Core and cavity design are made easy with special design tools for automatically extracting split lines. When complete, designers can thoroughly check and validate the tooling design, in a virtual environment, before they commit to its manufacture.
- Mold Assemblies
-
If you manufacture tooling for injection molded parts and incorporate standard components including moldbases and injector pins in your mold assemblies, mold design software will allow your designers to build tooling directly from cavity and core definitions. Assembly of standard components is largely automated with consolidated libraries available to generate this data. Interference checking tools and mold opening simulation eliminates the need for costly rework in service.
