ANSYS Mechanical

ANSYS Mechanical software offers a comprehensive product solution for structural linear or nonlinear and dynamics analysis. The product provides a complete set of elements behavior, material models and equation solvers for a wide range of engineering problems. In addition, ANSYS Mechanical offers thermal analysis and coupled-physics capabilities involving acoustic, piezoelectric, thermal–structural and thermoelectric analysis.

PreProcessor

Preprocessing with ANSYS Meshing:

Any continuous object has infinite degrees of freedom. Finite Element Method reduces this from infinite to finite by means of Meshing (i.e. creating nodes and elements). The goal of meshing in ANSYS Workbench is to provide robust, easy to use meshing tools that will simplify the mesh generation process. These tools have the benefit of being highly automated along with having a moderate to high degree of user control.

ANSYS Meshing is a component of ANSYS Workbench. It’s a next generation meshing platform which combines strengths of pre-processing offerings from ANSYS: ICEM CFD, TGRID, CFX-Mesh, Gambit, etc. ANSYS Meshing provides a wide range of highly robust automated meshing tools —from tetrahedral meshes to pure hexahedral meshes, inflation layers and high-quality shell meshes.

Capabilities:

Mesh generation is an inevitable process often consuming significant amount of time when done manually. Moreover, after every design change, mesh needs to be recreated/updated. With ANSYS Meshing, mesh settings like surface or edge sizing, meshing method, sphere of influence and more can be set by the user just by picking the geometry. These are preserved in the model and the next time when model design is changed, user just have to "Update Mesh" to get a similar mesh. Thus Automatic Mesh Generation can save you a lot of time.

Default mesh setting are available based on physics & solver preferenceslike CFD, Explicit, Mechanical, electromagnetic etc.

Automatic Virtual Topologycreation/geometry defeaturing options helps to simplify/ignore geometry to get suitable mesh quickly, thus avoiding time-consuming modification in the CAD package.

Geometrical entities of same size, type or location can be selected in single click by creating Named Selectionto apply mesh constraints on the entire model.

Use of Parameterized Meshing Controlscan add intelligence to your models.

Mesh Connectionscan be created while meshing sheet metal models to provide continuous mesh within a body to close gaps instead of time-consuming complex CAD modification. (Fig. 2)

Automatically detectSweepable Bodiesto create better quality elements. (Fig. 3)

The Mesh Metricoption allows to view mesh metric information and thereby evaluate the mesh quality.

What's New:

In ANSYS 14.0,Assembly Meshingenables dramatically reduced time to mesh for typical CAD models by eliminating the tedious geometry clean-up.

Use Virtual Bodies(material points) to automatically extract internal flow regions from assemblies for performing CFD analyses. (Fig. 5)

Users can use Mesh worksheets to create a Selective Meshing(formerly known as direct meshing) history so that meshing steps can be repeated in desired sequence for any geometry change.

Workbench is originally a geometry based tool but (considering customer demand) now it is possible to select nodes in GUIand apply loads, BCs or even orientations in arbitrary coordinate system
