Starting in engineering, The Intelligent Product Lifecycle captures critical product data, including hardware\/software requirements, material selections, and 3D CAD models, seamlessly integrating with major platforms like Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, and many others.<\/p>

Enabling organisational transformation by building structured product data foundations in engineering and extending the value of that data across the enterprise, the Intelligent Product Lifecycle also becomes the backbone of AI-driven transformation across the business.<\/p>

To kick off our Intelligent Product Lifecycle webinar series, Allan Thompson, PTC Technical Manager at LEAP discussed the foundational importance of PDM and how Windchill empowers organisations to extract maximum value from their product data. Here we have summarised and provided highlights of the webinar.<\/p>

To start things off, Allan provides an overview of what will be covered in the session, from managing MCAD to ECAD to Documentation and beyond, before explaining the Intelligent Product Lifecycle Vision, which we will be exploring in greater detail in future webinars.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Next Allan explains how Windchill facilitates efficient management of product data across the organisation throughout a product’s lifecycle. Key benefits of adopting Windchill for PDM include part-centric data management, the establishment of standardised processes for data changes and approvals, and fostering collaboration across the enterprise. Windchill helps address common challenges faced by organisations, such as difficulties in version control, data accessibility, historical tracking, and slow, manual business processes that can stall progress, enabling seamless data management and improved operational efficiency.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Allan then describes Windchill\u2019s CAD management capabilities<\/span>\u00a0for controlling and managing complex interrelationships between design files, including parts, assemblies, and drawings. Windchill allows for the integration and management of various CAD systems, including Creo, SolidWorks, Autodesk, NX and many others, with seamless check-in and check-out processes that enable users to efficiently manage design changes, view property information and maintain a history of revisions.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Further to MCAD data management, Windchill can also manage ECAD data. PTC collaborates with XPLM to create integrations that support various ECAD tools, such as Altium, by enabling seamless exchanges of bill of materials (BOM) and other critical information with Windchill. The integration allows users to access Windchill actions directly within their ECAD tools, facilitating tasks like checking in designs and generating downstream files.<\/p>

Additionally, documents and other non-CAD files can be version-controlled and managed within Windchill. Integrations with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace further enhance document management capabilities, allowing for efficient handling of various file formats, including those required in regulated industries. Next Allan discusses the critical role of visualisation within Windchill, which facilitates efficient data collaboration across various organisational levels. Creo View which is included with Windchill allows users to visualize 2D and 3D content without needing to access native design tools. This capability enables team members to measure, mark up, and interact with CAD and ECAD data, enhancing communication and approval processes.<\/p>

Allan also covers Windchill’s comprehensive search tools which allow users to retrieve information based on metadata and document content using advanced indexing and filtering options. The introduction of AI-powered document insights will enable users to conduct more natural language searches for information within the platform.<\/p>

Finally, Allan concludes with an overview of the process control capabilities within Windchill, including customisable workflows for managing change processes, approvals, and document tracking.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
