Space Environment Radiation
Electric charging caused from the interaction with charged particles in space is an environmental risk for the satellites, spacecraft and their onboard devices. Testing in space is expensive and time consuming. In those cases where in-space testing is possible, the data collected is often limited. Modern simulation tools simulating Space Radiation Effects are a valuable addition to SERE test facilities and vacuum chambers. This allows engineers to evaluate what-if scenarios and mitigate risks, before the mission gets into orbit.
EMAs facility: the chamber contains an array of energy sources from 5keV to >2MeV over a large working area. The combinations of these sources allows for EMA® to produce realistic spectra (rather than monoenergetic beams) associated with various orbits.
Build-up your own virtual SERE vacuum chamber to test and mitigate risk.
Incident particles (mostly electrons) penetrate low conductivity materials, creating unintentional electric fields that may result in electrical arcing.
