Vibrating Screens
Design & simulation solutions for vibrating screens.
Engineers face several challenges when designing vibrating screens, crucial for various industrial applications, from mining to food processing. Design considerations include durability and longevity, as these screens must withstand continuous vibrations and material impacts, leading to wear and tear. Material selection and structural design must balance strength, flexibility, and resistance to fatigue.
Another significant challenge is optimising screening efficiency and accuracy, which involves precise control over vibration parameters to accommodate different materials and particle sizes. Engineers must also address noise levels and energy efficiency, striving to minimise environmental impact while maintaining performance. Designing for ease of maintenance and adaptability to different operating conditions further complicates the engineering process, requiring a comprehensive understanding of mechanical dynamics, material science, and end-user needs.
Operational Efficiency
To understand what vibration frequency and amplitude achieves greatest efficiency, designers must strive for a high material quality with the lowest wear rate and least blockages. Without simulation these descisions are often estimates based on past experience that don’t account for the wide range of materials available and the unique conditions that are experienced in the field. Miscalculating the optimal operational efficiency can often lead to earlier than planned maintenance, lost operational time and increased costs.
Ansys Rocky can simulate the vibration motion of the screen, allowing engineers to test multiple configuations while determining the optimal screen angle, vibration and amplitude characteristics for high output, high quality and reduced wear.
Reduce Wear and Energy Consumption
A vibrating screen that is showing above expected wear in the field will cause the operator increase expense due to unplanned maintenance, low quality and low volume output. Additionally, if the problem is not understood maintenance will likely only bandaid the problem, rather than provide a more optimised, long-term solution.
Ansys Rocky simulation helps to identify key areas for improving wear across the system. From feed and discharge locations, heights and flow rates, screen angles and vibration rates, number of screens and material balance can all be explored and optimised early in the design phase to significantly reduce overall cost of the project or product
Material Separation
Commonly an engineer will work from previous experience or from a clients brief to design the vibrating screen, however this limits the potential of the solution. Designing based solely off previous projects won’t explore the design space for the best solution. Constraints such as material type, material moisture, install space, operational capacity have to be considered and balanced for the optimal design.
Ansys Rocky will allow the engineer to design and optimise feeders, chutes, and distribution gates to optimise the even spread of material resulting in a more efficient system and a superior end product.
