Vehicle component design

Vehicle components and attachments such as drawbars, impact bars, radio mounting brackets, etc. need to be designed to withstand road load vibrations. Failure could either be structural strength of material, or loss of functionality such as a radio dislodging from its mounting during driving.

Vibration loads, or short duration half-sine impact loads can be applied to attached components and assemblies to assess for specifical failure criteria whether defined in a design standard or defined by loss of functionality.

Occupant safety devices

The safety of vehicle occupants is paramount and is achieved through the correct transient behaviour of all components in the safety system. The seat, seatbelt and airbag needs to be designed to not only survive, but function throughout a high impact load event.

Crash Test Simulation

Head-on, angled or side-on impacts can assessed for either strength of structural components, survivability of occupants and payloads, and even spillage of payload onto surrounding environment.

Sloshing of Tankers

Sloshing in tankers, which refers to the movement of liquid cargo inside a tank, can pose significant dangers to the stability and safety of the vehicle, its occupants and the environment. Using simulation, engineers can better understand the behaviour and movement of the liquid inside tankers and how components such as baffles can be employed to best mitigate these dangers.
