Ansys Shared Web Licensing

What is Ansys Shared Web License?

The Ansys Shared Web License is a new licensing option introduced in 2023. This cloud-based service operates like a floating license, enabling users to share a pool of licenses without requiring customers to manage their own license servers. It is supported across all current Ansys products starting from version 2025R1 onwards.

How does it differ from Flexnet and Elastic License?

The Ansys Shared Web License allows users to work from anywhere on any device with an internet connection. In contrast, Flexnet licenses require both the user and the license server to be on the same network.

Accessing the license is as simple as logging in, unlike Flexnet-based licenses that require entering server details, or Elastic licenses which need an ID and PIN.

Furthermore, Ansys manages the Shared Web License entirely in the cloud, whereas Flexnet licenses require customer management. Both Shared Web and Flexnet licenses provide users access to a fixed pool of seats, unlike Elastic licenses which operate on a pay-per-use basis.

What are the benefits of Shared Web Licensing to Our Customers?

The Ansys Shared Web License offers a range of benefits that simplify the licensing process for businesses. One of the most significant advantages is that customers no longer need to maintain their own license servers, which lowers installation and maintenance costs. Additionally, detailed product usage information is readily available through the Licensing Portal, enabling organisations to anticipate future licensing needs and better understand usage patterns.

Accessibility and reliability are also key features of the Ansys Shared Web License as users can access their licenses via Single Sign-On. This removes the need for users to connect to VPN when being outside of the company’s network.

Furthermore, the Shared Web License offers high availability with a 99.9% Service Level Agreement (SLA), ensuring the services remain operational almost all the time.

The system’s scalability makes it easy to manage licenses for groups of users through the Licensing Portal, eliminating the need to configure complex options files or maintain separate license servers.

Lastly, the Ansys Shared Web License supports offline use, allowing users to continue working without an internet connection once they have logged in.

How to get started with Shared Web License?

While some applications support Shared Web Licensing starting from version 2023R2, it is highly recommended to use version 2025R1 or later. Users must have a reliable internet connection, and the company’s network must allow access to https://laas.ansys.com. Each user needs a free Ansys ID account linked to the company’s account number with Shared Web entitlements. After obtaining an Ansys ID, users can install the required products, then log in and immediately start using the license.
